The 2012 Conference will be held at the Resource Centre, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA, on Wednesday 7th March and will be from 10am until 4pm approximately. The keynote speakers are Aric Sigman, Penelope Leach, Hilary Kennedy and Sophie Kershaw.

Speaker profiles
Dr Aric Sigman
Dr Sigman is a Fellow of the Society of Biology, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a recipient of the Chartered Scientist award from the Science Council. His recent paper in the journal The Biologist focused on “the under-recognised biological effects of extended hours in day care on very young children.”He has travelled to various cultures, including Republic of Congo, North Korea, Turkmenistan, Bhutan, Tonga, West Papua, Burma, Iran, Korea, Vietnam, Borneo, Mali, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Sumatra, Cambodia and Eastern Siberia to study families and child development.
Hilary Kennedy
A pioneering educational psychologist and developer of Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) in the UK. Her recent book on the subject of VIG has the sub-title “A Relationship-Based Intervention to Promote Attunement, Empathy and Wellbeing.” She is currently is a freelance VIG trainer working on projects around the UK including the Family Drug and Alchohol Court, Camden, Tower Hamlets safeguarding, NSPCC Neglect, Czech republic, Finland and Mexico. She is also an honorary senior lecturer at University College London, an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society and is involved in supporting research in the effectiveness of VIG as an intervention.
Sophie Kershaw
The Service Manager of the Family Drug and Alcohol Court in January 2008. She qualified as a Social Worker in 1999. Prior to Qualification she worked in a children’s residential unit for 11 to 18 years olds, a Romanian orphanage, and working in direct access hostels and day centres for the homeless. She started work as a child protection Social Worker in 1999 for Camden and has worked in different roles within Children Services until January 2008. The family Drug and Alchohol Service has won at the end of 2011 three awards : the Royal College of Psychiatry award for Best Psychiatric Team, the Guardian Public Services award for Service Delivery for Children and Young People and the London Safeguarding Children Award 2011.
Dr Penelope Leach Ph.D
A psychologist and international expert on child development, Penelope is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of children, families and social issues and co-director of the largest study of English daycare - the Families, Children and Childcare study. Author of many books and papers, Penelope's most recent work has focused on the first year of life and the implications for child care of recent developments in neuroscience.
