Attachment to Carers
If I go back to work, will my child become more attached to her carer than she is to me?
Don't be upset if your child appears to be more attached to the substitute carer than you. A loving attachment relationship is what is needed for infant brain development. Feeling secure and safe with the substitute carer is exactly what your child needs. The more people who love your child the better. What is damaging is, frequent change of carer and lack of emotional contact with those who are responsible for providing care. Parents are unique and important in a child’s lives, even when the child becomes emotionally close to substitute carers.
